4:40 lowkey the best melody i ve ever heard
Jaquet de la Guerre holds her own fine against the other clavesinistes. Sad that some fossilized (and insecure) individuals still cling to the mid twentieth century belief that representation is based solely on merit and that no discrimination has existed. We have greatly modified that type of understanding in the twenty first century. I remember men saying, "All the best chefs in the world are men because they're naturally better at cooking than women. Women do fine in the home but the men create the true art". Haha, talk about rubbish! Let's evolve gentlemen!
😊so schön ❤
Here again we have a sometimes famous but more often incognito Italian composer who gets overshadowed by a German(ic) one. Am thinking of Sweelinck, Scheidt, Tunder+Buxtehude vs. Frescobaldi Bach vs. Corelli and even the great Vivaldi Haydn, Mozart, here: Schumann vs. our present composer of these highly imaginative variations. As a fairly neutral US-American I have worked at universities with Italian colleagues for whom this phenomenon is justifiably maddening. It also happens in Philosophy, Lit, literary theory (Gramsci!), the visual arts and Theology. I don't know what to say any further than this. Maybe someone else (Italian, German, Frrench, British, Irish Spanish, Portuguese etc--and especially Russian--does??
I think the problem in the History of Music is the opera. Since 17th century until the WW2, "Italian composer=opera", and any composer outside this repertoire was forgotten. It's not a coincidence if the only widely known work by Wolf-Ferrari is the opera Susanna's Secret. It's also sad you can experience this also in Italian music halls, since you never get the chance to listen to Sammartini, Vitali, Clementi, Sgambati, Martucci, Perosi (!)...
[Anyway, I wouldn't say that Frescobaldi is overshadowed by the composers you mentioned: Scheidt and Tunder are very obscure, Sweelinck seems to me to be performed and listened way less that Frescobaldi... But this doesn't undermine your comment, of course.]
Simply sublime,
The pinnacle of all String quartet Literature
Good record for practice 🎉
lindo❤
it can be done if one is less of an insufferable prick
Never heard an organ lover hating the harpsichord. This world never stops surprising me.
I don't necessarily love the musical material of the first movement, but it has a vivacity to it that makes up for that failing. The slow movement is sublime and wonderful, while the finale is very inventive and energetic.
The Sarabande part is something very special...🎶
A delight.
I'm listening to it well again today Thank you for the wonderful music
I can not have enough of listening to all these quartets.
BaSED!
Really interesting thank you !
The temperament sounds weird to my well-tempered ears. Does anyone know which this is?
Never boring, ever surprising. (A genius? Or an impaired operator behind the wheel on the Bach bus?)
This was almost a century *before* Bach...
OHH YEAHHHH THE BEST TRUE BAROQUE COMPOSER
I love this concerto so much...
The first movement is extremely haunting. Even more bizarre when you learn it is a portrait of Douglas Fairbanks, of all people. Great use of quartal harmony in the beginning, which lays down the harmonic blueprint for the rest of the entire movement.
Is this AI generated? It seems there is a lot of style transfer. Sometimes Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov, sometimes somebody else, Sounds too generic to be a real person. Tchaikovsky's Tempest was way better. Wait, now that I've listened too more of this crap, the more I listen this the angrier I get. Why would anyone bother writing all these useless notes?
Well, there are people who bother writing useless comments. :)
Smetana jumpscared me at the end😂
I think he liked chickens and shrieking things.
Cantata ''Byut' Porohy'' is A Good Opera Music💙💛🌻🌹🎼🎵🎶😊💙💙💙💙💙💙💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Beautiful work. Guess you can use any title that's been used before if your work does not resemble the other work .
Especially if it's a title as basic as "The Sea"
Agreed. Great orchestration- piccolo in the third register is bold and sounds right and nice low brass parts. Similarities between Debussy's _La Mer_ (which came 10 years after this work) and Gilson's appear to end at the title, as Gilson's harmony is usually characterized as Wagnerian while Debussy established a new school of harmony. Your comment inspired a search for any connection between the two contemporaries, but I couldn't find any, Gilson's work centered in Belgium and Debussy in France. But I can't help but think Debussy must have been aware of Gilson, his academic writing and this piece, but that did not deter him from using the same title. An unreferenced forum comment states, "It is said that Debussy took his inspiration for his own La Mer from Gilson's work.," which, if true, might be categorized as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, or more likely drove Debussy to write in a wholly new way, kind of an anti-inspiration. Interestingly, Gilson's work was well regarded in his lifetime while Debussy's _La Mer_ was not well received, but history is capricious, and novelty is often rewarded.
again what?
Excellent work!
What?
@@donaldlidman8670 I like the piece
Vive le Roi!
Nice
Hauntingly beautiful
11:39 17:50
Thanks for doing these pieces!
Very idiosyncratic performance. Made me curious if there is a historical basis for the uneven rhythms.
What do you mean by "uneven rhythms"?
I'm curious myself. I've heard heard a few baroque harpshichord recordings on here where straightforward 8th and 16th note clusters were in the score but were performed as though they were dotted.
It's called notes inegales
Oh, that... Yes, it's this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notes_in%C3%A9gales
7:08 that was pretty cool
Thank you for the great music today
12:54 is bill Jensen's Donation Sound
Oh man, Rhené-Baton. Serious hidden gem. I have never heard of this guy before!
Wait, is there a luke passion?? I though there are only 3 passions, not 4.
Loved it. It is courious how it sounds so much baroque, although published in 1770. I wonder when it was actually written.
Dufour was born in 1721, this has to be composed after 1745 at least.
In the 2nd mov. they missed the tempi. You cannot hear the "becoming faster" written in the score. Too bad. People today always tend to impress the audience with speed and technique, without paying much attention to the score.
Langoureusement monotone !
